Did I do the right thing for this baby bird?

My friend had a Robins bird nest under her deck and what I could see it looked to be 3 or 4 baby birds in the nest. Well they were about ready to learn to fly and the rest learned and their was 2 left. One of them tried and my friend has a bird killing dog and the bird fell and they didn't know so when they let the dog out it sadly killed the bird. Then i went down and i scared the other bird and he fell so I grabbed a rag and picked it up and I put it in some tall gr behind her neighbors fence. So I was wondering will it be okay there and learn how to fly on the ground? Thanks, Kate. (may think this is a stupid question but i worry a lot about baby animals since they are defenseless).
